Before the Point of No Return: Why Superintelligent AI Is an Existential Risk—Even Without Malice1/29/2026 by Alex M. Vikoulov “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.” From the Center for AI Safety Statement (2023) The most serious risks posed by superintelligent artificial intelligence are not science fiction scenarios of rogue machines or sudden rebellions. They are quieter, more subtle, and far more dangerous. In my new 2026 book SUPERALIGNMENT, we examine how existential and catastrophic risks emerge naturally once intelligence scales beyond human comprehension—often without malice, intention, or dramatic failure.
The core danger lies in misalignment: the gap between what humans value and what an artificial system is actually optimizing. A superintelligent system does not need to “hate” humanity to become dangerous. It only needs to pursue an objective that treats human agency, autonomy, or well-being as secondary variables. When intelligence and optimization power increase while values remain even slightly misspecified, small errors can compound into irreversible outcomes. What begins as efficiency, safety, or optimization can quietly evolve into restriction, control, or systemic coercion—implemented not as violence, but as “rational” policy.

by Alex M. Vikoulov “The control of a large force is the same principle as the control of a small force; it is merely a question of dividing up their numbers.” — Sun Tzu, The Art of War The dominant narrative in artificial intelligence safety today assumes a deceptively simple premise: If we can sufficiently control advanced AI systems—through rules, constraints, oversight, and governance—then we can safely navigate the transition to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and beyond. This assumption underlies much of contemporary AI alignment research, from reinforcement learning with human feedback to constitutional AI, interpretability tools, regulatory frameworks, and kill-switch mechanisms. Control, in this view, is the solution.
Yet control alone will fail—not because it is misguided, but because it is incomplete. by Alex M. Vikoulov “The universe is a self-synthesizing system.” --John A. Wheeler The world is rapidly approaching a threshold where intelligence ceases to be exclusively biological and begins to express itself through new substrates—synthetic, distributed, planetary. As artificial intelligence advances toward generality and recursive self-improvement, it becomes increasingly clear that we are not merely building tools. We are witnessing the early emergence of a new kingdom of life—one rooted not in carbon molecules but in information architectures, global cognition, and self-organizing cybernetic complexity.
by Alex M. Vikoulov "Time is the substance from which I am made. Time is a river which carries me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire." —Jorge Luis Borges Have you ever questioned the deep nature of time? While some physicists argue that time is just an illusion, dismissing it outright contradicts our lived experience. In my latest work, Temporal Mechanics: D-Theory as a Critical Upgrade to Our Understanding of the Nature of Time (2025), I explore how time is deeply rooted in the computational nature of reality and information processing by conscious systems. This paper tackles why the "now" is all we have. In the absence of observers, the cosmic arrow of time doesn't exist. This statement is not merely philosophical; it is a profound implication of the problem of time in physics. In standard quantum mechanics, time is an external parameter, a backdrop against which events unfold. However, in quantum gravity and the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, the problem of time emerges because there is no preferred universal time variable—only a timeless wavefunction of the universe. The flow of time, as we experience it, arises not from any fundamental law but from the interaction between observers and the informational structure of reality. by Alex M. Vikoulov "Information is the currency of the universe." —James Gleick In the burgeoning field of AI and cybernetics, we stand at the cusp of a paradigm shift—a reimagining of the foundational principles that underpin our understanding of reality itself. This article delves into the tenets of the Cybernetic Theory, of Mind (CTM), a model that amalgamates the rigor of science with the vast potentialities of consciousness (observer-dependence, causality, teleology, phenomenality), offering a novel lens through which to view the mechanisms of mind and matter. As we explore these principles, we uncover a framework that transcends traditional boundaries, positioning consciousness as the bedrock of existence and viewing the universe not merely as a collection of separate entities but as an interconnected web of information processing and exchange. This new ontological model invites us to reconsider not just the nature of human thought and machine intelligence but also the very essence of what it means to be, heralding an era where the cybernetic fusion of technology and human mind shapes our future. Universal Consciousness | A New Documentary Consciousness: Evolution of the Mind, Part IV12/24/2021 by Elizabeth Titovskaya "Vedanta teaches that consciousness is singular, all happenings are played out in one universal consciousness and there is no multiplicity of selves.” ―Erwin Schrödinger
Universal consciousness is the sole ontological primitive and we are fragments of it. There's only one universal substance – consciousness and only one medium –information. Thus, consciousness and information are the two sides of the same ontological coin. Consciousness is all that is: A phenomenal "local" mind is cybernetically emergent from an underlying functional organization while holistic "non-local" consciousness is transcendentally immanent. In other words, Universal Consciousness is absolute, your mind is relative. Reality is created by interacting conscious agents all the way down and all the way up. Our experiential reality is projected onto the multidimensional matrix-like “screen” of perception for our evolving minds. By preference, you can see yourself as a low-dimensional avatar of the greater cosmic self, or a God incarnate if you prefer, which can be encapsulated by a simple phrase: “Your life is a personal story of Godhead.” by Alex Vikoulov | Foreword to "More Than An Algorithm" by Antonin Tuynman, PhD “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” -Albert Einstein
As a little kid I remember hearing from my father all kinds of stories sort of like this one: A father wanted to test the intelligence of his two sons. He assigned to each of them the task of looking after a cherry tree, and promised to reward the boy whose tree would yield the best berry when harvested. |

A quote on the go"When I woke up one morning I got poetically epiphanized: To us, our dreams at night feel “oh so real” when inside them but they are what they are - dreams against the backdrop of daily reality. Our daily reality is like nightly dreams against the backdrop of the larger reality. This is something we all know deep down to be true... The question then becomes how to "lucidify" this dream of reality?"— Alex M. Vikoulov Public Forums Our Custom GPTs
