MIT’s engineers created a prototype of a microrobotic worm for easier brain surgeries
Aimed to help neurosurgeons perform less invasive biomedical procedures, a tiny robotic worm can zigzag its way through a model brain. Yoonho Kim and his colleague Xuanhe Zhao at Massachusetts Institute of Technology created the robot out of a soft polymer with embedded ferromagnetic microparticles, meaning it can be navigated using a magnet. The device is coated in a self-lubricating material and is less 0.6 millimetres in diameter.
This New Book Explores Future Scenarios of The Intelligence Supernova: What Will That Mean for Humanity? Immortality or Oblivion?

"The Intelligence Supernova: Essays on Cybernetic Transhumanism, the Simulation Singularity & the Syntellect Emergence" by Alex M. Vikoulov, foreword by Antonin Tuynman, PhD is a must read for futurists, philosophers and transhumanist thinkers. Release Date: September 1, 2019; Publisher: Ecstadelic Media Group; Format: Kindle eBook.
We are now on a collision course with the most significant event in the entire history of our planet comparable in criticality only to the emergence of life itself. This "Novacene" event would mark the technological maturity of human-machine civilization, as we are to inevitably transcend our biology, and even more importantly, we are to transcend our dimensionality by achieving the so-called Simulation Singularity.
Most of us are familiar with the concept of the Technological Singularity. While those terms can be often used interchangeably, the 'Intelligence Supernova' adds a slightly different connotation -- it means the Omega Point of Homo sapiens -- the convergent point of exponential technologies and on a civilizational scale, progressively morphing into one Global Mind, i.e. a phase transition of humanity termed in the book 'The Syntellect Emergence'. This convergent point would signify no less than Self-Transcendence, in other words, engineered godhood.
Within the next few decades, we’ll witness accelerating changes so profound and swift that the linear progression of human history would eventuate as the Intelligence Supernova of astronomical significance, the "implosion" of all knowledge of man and "transcension" outside the dimensionality of "human" universe.

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), have successfully synthesized human thoughts into real-time speech. This paves the way for consumer devices that can respond to thoughts without the need for the user to audibly state commands.
In April, researchers at UCSF announced a ‘neural speech prosthesis’ that could produce relatively natural-sounding speech from decoded brain activity. In a study published today, they revealed that they continued that work and have successfully decoded brain activity as speech in real-time. They have been able to turn brain signals for speech into written sentences. The project aims to transform how patients with severe disabilities can communicate in the future.

A semi-synthetic organism was created and proved to be stable in the lab in La Jolla, California
Researchers have extended their efforts to create and optimize a semi-synthetic organism (SSO) using analogues to DNA and RNA. Previously, the team of scientists, led by Aaron W. Feldman of The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, reported the creation of a SSO that had maintained an ‘unnatural’ base pair (UBP) in its DNA. Efficiently transcribing synthetic messenger RNAs, the organism was able to produce proteins that contained ‘noncanonical’ amino acids, or amino acids outside the list of natural proteins produced by biological life.
Elon Musk's Neuralink Aims to Upgrade Humans by Using Brain-Computer Interfaces and to Ultimately Merge Us with AI

Elon Musk announces his startup's plans for human tests of neural interfaces by the end of 2020. "A monkey has been able to control a computer with his brain," he says onstage.
Elon Musk’s Neuralink startup, founded in July 2016 to create "ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers," held a special announcement event in San Francisco on Tuesday. The presentation was livestreamed from California Academy of Sciences and detailed Neuralink’s plans for developing the next generation of cybernetic neurotechnologies aimed to connect the human brain directly to computing machines.
